Senators file defamation lawsuits against opponents
Politicians are gutless crybabies.
Two Senate campaigns have brought defamation lawsuits against their opponents.
Senator Norm Coleman Republican from Minnesota has filed a suit against Al Franken claiming that Mr. Franken's T.V. ads claiming the Senator is the fourth most corrupt in Washington are false. Apparently Mr. Coleman has a history of filing lawsuits to solve his campaign grievances.
Democratic challenger Kay Hagan has filed a defamation lawsuit against incumbent Senator Elizabeth Dole, Republican from North Carolina, for ads that link her to an atheist political action committee called the Godless Americans who support removing the words "In God We Trust" from money and the phrase "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance.

Bradley E-mails Warn of Laura Ewing's Islamic Project
Texas State Board of Education incumbent David Bradley sent e-mails out this week warning that his opponent Laura Ewing is leading a project to develop Islamic curriculum for all Texas school children. He also accuses the teacher of travelling to Africa and India with other Social Studies Educators to study Islamic history and culture. The project was backed by Governor Rick Perry and U.T. President Faulkner.
Bradley states: "A fellow member of the Islamic project is already on the State Board of Education. We don’t need another one."
Bradley also writes: "You may have heard about the commotion this past May in my opponent’s hometown, Friendswood, Texas. Without parental notification, all middle school students were forced to attend Islamic training led by a left-leaning Islamic group. The principal of the school is no longer employed there, but that does not dismiss what occurred. I will continue to resist attempts to require Islamic studies and absurd sensitivity training of our students."
He does not accuse Ms. Ewing of being a Muslim nor does he say Muslims should be excluded from seeking public office but he apparently believes anyone studying Muslim culture and history is not qualified to be on the State Board of Education.
Bradley goes on to state that the Board is in the process of updating science curriculum and the "Liberals" are already conspiring to confuse students on the nature of scientific "fact and theory" and exclude alternative theories to the Theory of Evolution, which he seems to find particularly offensive. Of course he does not specify which "alternative theories"are not represented by the present school curriculum.
According to the State Board of Education website:
Bradley, a self-employed businessman, is licensed in insurance and real estate sales.
Bradley received his Eagle Scout award in 1972 and served on the executive board of the Three Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is a graduate of Houston Independent School District's magnet program, High School for Health Professions. He attended the University of Houston and Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets.
More recently, Bradley was president of the Old Town Neighborhood Association for four years. In addition, he was a founding member of the Oaks Historic District in Beaumont, the largest residential historic district in Texas. He was also founding president of Beaumont's Citizens on Patrol, a neighborhood crime prevention/patrol organization.
In the League of Women's Voters 2008 Voter Guide Laura Ewing lists her qualifications as following:
Bachelor's Secondary Education, Master's Educational Leadership and extensive additional training in how children learn, educational policies and finances and has been a teacher for 24 years and 10 years as a specialist working with teachers, librarians, character education programs, textbook adoption, staff development, and 5 years on the Friendswood City Council.
The choice for State Board of Education District 7 is an anti-knowledge incumbent with a religious agenda or a challenger who was not only a teacher but is knowledgeable about many aspects of education .
It's time to boot David Bradley.

It all started with the word "liar".
I can't remember if it was McCain or Palin who uttered it in reference to Obama but I do remember thinking that I've never heard it actually used in a presidential campaign before.
Later, it went down hill as Palin's rhetoric on the campaign trail heated up to accusations that Obama "palled around with terrorists" in her attempts to tie Obama to 60's radical William Ayers. That in turn inspired rally attendees to follow with words like "kill him", "terrorist", "traitor" and "treason" although it is not clear whether they were referring to Ayers or Obama. Both McCain and Palin implied Obama was a dangerous mystery man and who the American people really didn't know and that had a radical agenda on abortion, although they did not explain what that agenda was.
It's obvious that the McCain campaign was just attempting to shore up the Conservative base and get them to the polls but it backfired when instead it brought out the nut factor of the Republican party.
The nut factor exists in both parties and usually doesn't rear it's head so publicly during a presidential campaign.
But heated rhetoric in the hands a political amateur like Sarah Palin can be dangerous. There is a fine line between using it to get a political base fired up and ready for the polls and inciting them to violence against another candidate or party.
